At Sunnyhill, we recognise the importance of technology in society and so the curriculum will educate pupils in how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. Through our chosen curriculum, we will ensure our pupils can keep up with the ever evolving technological world they are growing up in. We want our pupils to use technology competently and to make informed decisions safely.

In EYFS, the pupils explore different technologies through play-based activities that focus on building listening skills, curiosity, creativity and problem solving.  We want the children to develop a familiarity with equipment and vocabulary that they will encounter in Key Stage 1.

Across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, we use the National Centre for Computing’s ‘Teach Computing’ programme to deliver Computing lessons. Our pupils are taught Computing in a way that ensures progression of skills in digital literacy, computer science, information technology and online safety.  We equip pupils with the relevant skills and knowledge that is required to understand these core areas and to offer a broad and balanced approach to providing quality first teaching of this subject.

Enrichment statement

At Sunnyhill we believe in the importance of developing and extending the curriculum through a wide range of purposeful enrichment opportunities.  These opportunities include; educational visits, visiting speakers,  sports competitions, after school clubs, music recitals and school exhibitions.  Through these experiences we want our pupils to:

  • look at subjects in more depth
  • develop their interests and talents
  • learn life skills that will equip them to be responsible, respectful and active citizens.

Examples of Work

Computing is recorded in floor books so that we can document the children’s learning as they move through the school.
